MALACCA STRAIT ISLAND MOSQUE

Masjid Selat Melaka which was built in the middle of the city's business center located at strategic locations downstream of Pulau Melaka Malacca Strait sea front is a new landmark in the country. The idea of the construction of this mosque was inspired by YAB Datuk Seri Hj Mohd Ali Bin Mohd Rustam, Chief Minister of Melaka. The mosque named Masjid Selat Melaka since been built on an artificial island located in the Strait of Malacca Strait which is the longest and busiest in the world. This Masjid area of 1.8 square hectares .. The mosque was built in July 2003 and was completed and used on August 29, 2006. The Straits Mosque was inaugurated by SPB Yang Di-Pertuan Agung to XII, Tunku Syed Sirajuddin Ibni Al-Marhum Tunku Syed Putra Jamalullail on Nov 24, 2006, equivalent to 3 Zulkaedah 1427.
The mosque is characterized by the Malay architecture and mixed Arab and Malay. This concept can clearly be seen in the construction of the dome, built muqarnas and around the mosque tower roof. The mosque was built on the sea surface has five spacious sidewalk can be on the side and back of the mosque. Landscape development in front of mosques provide tranquility to visitors.
Prayer hall can accommodate about 1500 pilgrims. There is a 30 meter tall tower stands on the left gate Masjid Selat Melaka. Located on top of the tower is a reminder warning lights for aircraft passed over it and also serves as a lighthouse for fishing boats were on the coast.
