Samsung seems to blur the lines between tablets, notes and smartphones in its Galaxy range of gadgets.

This time around, the company has added a camera to the mix. As with most Galaxy range products, Samsung seems to tease one by providing a product which has almost everything except that one feature that would make it a complete all-in-one gadget.

The Samsung Galaxy camera with a 16 megapixel sensor, 21x optical zoom and a 23mm wide zoom lens is a brilliant shooter with all the basic goods found in a high-end smartphone, except it doesn't make calls.

It runs Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system, has a 1,4GHz quad-core processor, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a 4,8inch touchscreen on the back.

The camera has a Sim card slot which enables data connectivity, including 3G Internet, to any mobile device. Next to the Sim card slot is a micro card slot.

Among its applications are Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Game Hub, Dropbox, WhatsApp, Gmail and Google Maps, which can be used as one would on a smartphone.

It also has a calculator, video editor and, in short, everything you'd find on a smartphone. It has a full menu of shooting modes, which can be controlled on the touchscreen.

Compared to an average compact camera, it is a bit bulky, but that can be justified by its two-in-one character.

The Galaxy camera is an impressive peek into what the future of portable gadgets holds. It is certainly a tease worth falling for.

What is it? The Galaxy Camera is a melding of an Android smart device (minus the phone) and a digital camera. When combined, the camera is network-enabled (via Wi-Fi or a 4G LTE connection from either AT&T or Verizon), giving users the ability to immediately upload and share their photos and videos without needing to upload them to a separate computer.

On the camera side, the Galaxy Camera features 16 megapixel imaging, a 21x optical zoom, a 23-millimeter-wide zoom lens and 1080p-recording camcorder. Additional features include image stabilization, specific modes (like macro, landscape, nighttime, etc.) and the ability to control camera features with the Samsung S Voice app. The camera features 8GB of internal memory and up to 64GB via microSD memory card.

On the Android side, the Galaxy Camera features the 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, with the ability to check email, download apps and do everything you'd do with an Android smartphone or tablet (again, except make phone calls).

Why it's cool: The camera seems to answer the question/statement, "If only my smartphone could take better photos!" The camera part of this device is incredibly impressive, and should dwarf anything you can produce via your current smartphone (it will certainly generate oohs and aahs from friends or co-workers when the zoom lens pops out). The Wi-Fi (you can also use this as a mobile hotspot) and 4G network connections give users the quick ability to share their photos -- whether it's uploading to Flickr, Picasa, Facebook or other social sites. For people who need to quickly send things to the Internet without heading to a PC, this is a nice benefit.

In my tests, I was able to use the Galaxy Camera to take photos and shoot videos at a trade show without needing to carry a much larger and bulkier camcorder, although it's only an advantage in quieter rooms/areas -- the microphone on the Galaxy Camera is still inferior to XLR-connected camcorders.

Some caveats: Transferring data to my computer (a MacBook Pro) was more difficult than with my Sony camcorder -- the Galaxy Camera couldn't import directly into iMovie, but rather required a separate Samsung app (Kies) for data transfer. I didn't have a microSD card, so the camera's internal memory filled up quickly with video files, limiting its usefulness. While a network connection may be useful for transmitting photos, the limitations of Wi-Fi and data usage caps of 4G service make video transfer a concern.

The combination of smartphone (sans phone) and digital camera is a nice idea, but you may feel that separate smaller phones/cameras may be more useful, unless you're really aching for a portable camera with a network connection that also lets you play Angry Birds Star Wars.

Grade: 3.5 stars (out of five)

Bokeh Skill With Sony Alpha

“Bokeh” comes from the Japanese word for “blur” or “haze.” It’s used to describe the quality of the out of focus areas of a photograph. If you’ve ever read a photography forum, you’ll know that the word is often used to describe how a particular lens handles out of focus points of light. You can even hear bokeh being classified as silky, Hollywood-style, or cream cheese-like (honestly!).

When a point of light in a photograph is out of focus, it turns into a shape defined by the lens’s aperture. We can create a second, smaller, aperture to attach to the front of our lens in order to customize that shape. The result is a charming effect in the background of your photographs, as long as there points of light such as streetlights, candles, or Christmas lights in frame. In MAKE Volume 26 and on Make: Projects, Sindri Diego walks you through the process of making photographs with this neat effect.

If you need a little inspiration, there’s no shortage of great ideas out there for how to use this in your photography. And if you try out this project, post your best photographs to the MAKE Flickr pool.

The Swan Lake Nature Study Area (formerly called Lemmon Valley Marsh) is a small conservation area in Lemmon Valley, Nevada. It contains marsh, alkali mud flats, and high desert. The Lahontan Audubon Society describes it as "a nearly unspoiled wetland in the midst of suburban housing and warehouses" and designates it a Nevada Important Bird Area. It is a notable location for birding; over 150 species have been observed there.
The Swan Lake Nature Study Area consists of over 1,800 acres (7 km2) of land, with water supplied by the nearby Reno/Stead Sewage Treatment Plant. The size of the actual wetland varies seasonally and yearly, depending on the amount of precipitation, between 100 and 1,000 acres (4 km2). It was formally dedicated as a nature study area in 1999, following several years of planning by Reno-area environmentalist/writer/photographer Bob Goodman. The lead organization in planning and creating the conservation area was the Nevada Army National Guard, which contributed about 360 acres (1.5 km2) and performed preliminary ecological studies. Other sponsoring organizations include: the Bureau of Land Management; the City of Reno; the Lahontan Audubon Society; Nevada Division of Wildlife; the Nevada Land Conservancy; Washoe County Parks and Recreation Department; and Washoe County School District. Features include an observational boardwalk into the marsh and educational signs about the local ecology.[2]

Game Mobile ( freecell)

There are various advantages of mobile phones. The growth of cell phone usage has increased drastically since the last decade, and it is estimated that mobile phones will cross 5 billion in 2010. With their number increasing at a tremendous rate and with the threat of ‘cell phone addiction’, there are certainly several disadvantages of cell phones as well.

Few Advantages of Mobile Phones

Since the year 1991, the number of mobile phone users all across the globe has risen drastically. This sharp increase has been mostly observed in developing Asian countries like China and India, that have surpassed the US in the number of mobile phone consumers. Certainly, there are several advantages of mobile phones that has helped in the cell phone success by leaps and bounds. However, there are some disadvantages of cell phone as well that can’t be ignored. I’ll talk about both facets of cell phone usage further..

Ease to Express Yourself
By allowing instant access to anybody across the globe, mobile phones have changed the landscape of communication. Not only globally, cell phones are important in day to day life. You want to talk to someone at home, a friend or your spouse, just give a call! You forget something important at home and now you need it in your office. Give a call at home! So on and so forth…cell phones are a necessity. Aren’t they?

More than Communication, Entertainment
Love listening to music? Or playing video games? Or watching movies? Do all you wish, by purchasing some affordable mobile phones. Entertainment, especially when you’re traveling or getting bored, was never so easy. Nowadays, you can even browse Internet on your cell phones. Cell phone manufacturers cater to the needs of every mobile user, with the upgradation of latest features and technology. There are so many applications and features in mobile phones that people hardly have time to learn all of them!

More Safety
Although, having cell phones is not a guarantee for safety, it certainly can be helpful for you in emergency situations. Keeping cell phones in your car while traveling is one of the topmost personal safety tips. In case of any accidents or unexpected events, you can inform someone, who can rush to your rescue. Similarly, cell phones can be helpful to old and disabled people. Although, lifts in offices and residential buildings come with phone extension and alarm buttons, cell phones are anytime better to call for help, in case of elevator failure. Similarly, there can be many more instances in daily life, where mobile phones are a necessity.

Few Disadvantages of Mobile Phones

Not all are positive about mobile phones. There are some demerits of mobile phones that are discussed below.

Health Effects
Electromagnetic radiation from cell phones may cause health problems. Rigorous studies are being carried out to know about the negative effects of cell phones. Sleep deprivation, stress and brain problems have been linked to overuse of cell phones, and are considered as the possible effects of cell phone radiation. Some studies have reported that cell phone usage can trigger male infertility symptoms. But nothing has been proved yet, though we can lessen mobile use to some extent.

Children Suffer
Children have been found to have some worrisome effects of mobile phone usage. Since they have weaker immune system, thinner skin and developing nervous system, waves generated from mobile phones can harm their body cells. It has been found that children can absorb radio waves to a far greater extent than adults.

Legal Issues
Mobile phones come with cameras and hence this has led to hundreds of thousands of cases pending in courts about privacy problems. There have been instances in the past, in countries like Saudi Arabia, Japan, Korea, where a ban was imposed on camera phones, making it a strict rule to sell only those cell phones that come with an appreciable click sound! Moreover, crime rate has also increased with miscreants like robbers and terrorists pursuing their nefarious schemes through mobile phones.
