Malacca (Malay: Melaka, dubbed "The Historic State" ) is the third smallest Malaysian state after Perlis and Penang. It is located in the southern region of the Malay Peninsula, next to the Straits of Malacca. It borders Negeri Sembilan to the north and Johor to the south. The capital is Malacca City, which is 148 kilometres (92 miles) south east of Malaysia's capital city Kuala Lumpur, 235 kilometres (146 miles) north west to Johor's largest city Johor Bahru, and 95 km (59 miles) north west to Johor's second largest city, Batu Pahat. This historical city centre has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 7 July 2008.
Although it was the location of one of the earliest Malay sultanates, the monarchy was abolished when the Portuguese conquered it in 1511. The head of state is the Yang di-Pertua Negeri or Governor, rather than a Sultan.

Sony NEX-5 and NEX-3 cameras

When we first heard that the Sony NEX-5 or NEX-3 can create merged images (they name it HDR) from multiple shots in camera we first expected this feature to be more of a marketing trick. It turns out to be quite real and useful instead. There are actually two possibilities to create HDR images with the NEX-5:

Create in camera merged images
Shoot bracketed photos with different exposures
Create in camera merged images

In this case the camera creates two images:

JPEG from the middle exposure
JPEG merged from 3 images. You can set the EV range from 1-6 EV. We mostly use 3 EV.
Before we show some samples lets look at the pros and cons.

Pro

NEX camera creates good quality merged images
The 7 fps of the NEX shooting helps that not much moves inside the frame during the shooting of all 3 exposures
Con

The middle exposure image cannot be saved as RAW (you have to shoot in JPEG Fine)
The processing takes some extra time. This means you have to wait to get the camera ready for the next shot
The images clearly need some post processing. Not sure this is really a con for us because it is hard to believe that the camera could do a perfect job. As the result the camera produces very soft and de-saturated images.
In the ideal world we would like to be able to get all exposures as RAW files and the merged image as well. If this would be too hard to implement then Sony should at least allow to get the middle exposure as a RAW file because we are not really happy with the NEX JPEG quality (shadows are way too much crushed for our taste).

Note: All sample photos in this article were shot freehand. Combined with the excellent NEX LCD this allows shooting positions that are hard to get with a tripod (e.g. overhead shots).

Sunset In Brown - Sony Digital

Sunset or sundown is the daily disappearance of the Sun below the horizon in the west as a result of Earth's rotation.

The time of sunset is defined in astronomy as the moment when the trailing edge of the Sun's disk disappears below the horizon in the west. The ray path of light from the setting Sun is highly distorted near the horizon because of atmospheric refraction, making the sunset appear to occur when the Sun’s disk is already about one diameter below the horizon. Sunset is distinct from dusk, which is the moment at which darkness falls, which occurs when the Sun is approximately eighteen degrees below the horizon. The period between sunset and dusk is called twilight.

Locations north of the Arctic Circle and south of the Antarctic Circle experience no sunset or sunrise at least one day of the year, when the polar day or the polar night persist continuously for 24 hours.

Bangi Perdana - sunset

Bangi is a small town situated on the south of the district of Hulu Langat, in Selangor, Malaysia. It is roughly situated between the towns of Kajang (9 kilometres away) and Putrajaya (formerly Prang Besar) (also 9 kilometres away), and is linked to KTM Komuter commuter train services via the Bangi Komuter station. The town is surrounded by palm oil estates; a Malaysian Palm Oil Board/UKM research station is also based close to the town.

Bangi is not to be confused with Bandar Baru Bangi, a newer and larger township several kilometres north, similar to the town only by name and located closer to Kajang.

Bandar Baru Bangi (literally translated from Malay to English as New Bangi Town) is a township - recently crowned as "Knowledge City" - situated in the district of Hulu Langat, in Selangor, Malaysia, named after the small town of Bangi situated further south. It is located between Kajang and Putrajaya (formerly Prang Besar) and is about 25 km away from the capital city, Kuala Lumpur. The planning for Bandar Baru Bangi is based in Structure Plan, Local and Action Area Plan, Town Centre Urban Plan and the Town Park Plan prepared by international teams led by Peter Verity of PDRc Architects and Urbanists for the State Planning Department and PKNS.
Bandar Baru Bangi has education institutions, national institutions and agencies, corporate institutions, factories and industrial training centres. It also houses a five-star hotel, Hotel Equatorial with an 18-hole golf course.

Bangi lake garden

Taman Tasik Cempaka is one of the Jewel of Bangi that provides the community with large spacious lake garden for healthy lifestyle. Every weekend it will be crowded with joggers, brisk walkers or simply people having leisure times with their family. The lake garden is complete with more the 4 kms jogging tracks, kid’s playgrounds, stretching and exercise spots, reflexology tracks, small foot ball field, picnic gazebos etc.

The Bangi community that practiced healthy lifestyle will used the garden as their playground while others unwind themselves with their family and friends after hectic days at work. The place is a must for my weekend brisk walking and exercise routines. Used to join the Sunday aerobic session by the lake but lately it was changed to Saturday at the Bangi Walk corner, which I found not suitable at all for the program . Hope the organiser will change it back to the regular spot by the lake that provides fresher air and ample space compared to the congested Bangi Walk by the main road. While you walked around the lake enjoyed the sight of Chikong practitioners and Pocho Pocho dancers that add to the colorful life in the garden.

A recreational area is a must to propagate healthy lifestyle and Bangi is lucky to have Taman Tasik Cempaka. It must be utilized and preserved by the community as a treasure and landmarks for the Knowledge City. We have to exercise and look after our health or else others will have to look after us.
